Simultaneous translation

Simultaneous interpreting is the most complicated form of translation. It is a form of interpretation when translation is put on simultaneously with spokesman’s speech back a bit from it. As a rule simultaneous interpreting is used at the international meetings with a great amount of participants.

Simultaneous interpreting process requires special equipment viz: as a rule an interpreter sits in an isolated cab and translation is going through speakers to the participants of the meeting. Since such meetings are held as usual with participants from few different countries it requires several interpreters at once.

Simultaneous interpreting is an extremely complicated type of translation and calls the highest concentration on the interpreter that is why he is strung up during doing his job. In this respect interpreters run together in pairs with pauses after 20-30 minutes of work.

Advantages of simultaneous interpreting:

  • multilingual translation;
  • simultaneous interpreting does not deflect audience attention away from a report and reporter’s attention away from his speech;
  • time and resource savings are obvious;
  • participants who speak reporter’s language have a chance to listen to a speech in the original without paying attention on the interpreter.

Simultaneous interpreting is essential during important negotiations, high-level talks, conferences, events with great amount of participants.

Naturally not every interpreter who is a qualified linguist can work simultaneous. Professionals of translation agency “ALIGAT” note that this type of translation requires special skills: ‘ability of flash-like translation without listening till the end of an extract’

In restrained terms it becomes harder because in some languages notional verb stands in the end of a statement what can turn to misunderstanding. Besides that the interpreter has to fit into spokesman’s discriminants and be stress-resistant. It is considered that before the spokesman speech the interpreter should familiarize with the text, but in actual practice it is normal to translate a text at sight. Professional interpreter should be ready for such circumstances and manage his task.

The best professionals have busy schedule for several weeks forth.

To make an order you should:

  1. let us know about a scheduled event (lodge an application) beforehand (minimum a few days before). Ideally lodge an application for simultaneous interpreting two weeks before the event.
    *Interpreters have a tight schedule and if you would like to make an emergency order for tomorrow we can not guarantee that an interpreter is not already engaged;
  2. if possible give us materials in order to let interpreters prepare for their job
  3. let us know about available equipment in the business event location. If any special equipment is not available, translation agency “ALIGAT” can offer collaboration with partners that afford such equipment on a leasehold basis.
